CALAMITY DAY INFORMATION
How Does Boardman Decide to Close or Delay School?
The safety of our students and staff is always the top priority for Boardman Local Schools. Wintery weather conditions - such as snow, ice, or extreme cold - or other unforeseen issues like power outages or water problems may cause school to be delayed or closed for the day.
When do we close or delay school?
When making a decision, the district considers:
- Road conditions reported by transportation staff, township officials, and law enforcement
- Forecasts and timing of approaching weather
- Building conditions (heating, power, and water)
- Safety of students walking or waiting at bus stops and student drivers
There is no set amount of snow or certain temperature that will guarantee a delay or closing. Our goal is to announce any adjustment as soon as we can. We are constantly monitoring weather forecasts and will make an announcement the night before, whenever possible.
Please note: When a 2-hour delay is initiated, schedules for all buildings are pushed back exactly two hours later, class periods are shortened and dismissal is at the normal time. There is no breakfast served on those days.
HOW ARE PARENTS ALERTED OF A CLOSING OR DELAY?
School closings are announced via a number of platforms:
- District Website
- District-wide REMIND message (please allow notifications via push text/ or email)
- Local media channels
- Boardman Local School District social media channels
