Summer school at Glenwood Jr. High is kicking it up a notch this year! ☀️🔬🤖
Students are strengthening skills in the classroom while also diving into hands-on, project-based learning with special guest instructors.
This week, Superintendent Chris Neifer and his wife, a BHS grad and local chemistry teacher Amy Neifer, challenged students to think like scientists. Students grew crystals and tackled a water filtration challenge, using dirty pond water, sand, rocks, cotton, and coffee filters to see who could create the clearest water. The activities encouraged teamwork, creativity, and problem-solving while making science fun and engaging.
And there's more to come!
🔹 Mr. Harker will introduce students to robotics.
🔹 BHS teacher Mr. Popio will host students in the STEAM Lab for an IT building project.
🔹 Facilities Director Mr. Fonderlin will take students behind the scenes of major district projects, including the Spartan Stadium turf replacement and other construction improvements happening across Boardman Local Schools.
Summer learning is about more than academics—it's about exploring interests, building skills, and discovering how classroom lessons connect to the real world. Great things are happening at Glenwood this summer!

They had the chance to pilot drones, connect with industry professionals, and ask questions about future opportunities. What an amazing day for nearly 45 BHS and Glenwood Jr. High students!!
They spent most of the day --suited up with waders and muck boots to do a professional field study with Kent State Scientists who monitor more than 42 wetlands across Ohio.
We are so grateful for this Kent State partnership--their expertise is helping make the dream for education to continue on the very spot where Market Street Elementary School once stood.
This Forest Lawn Stormwater Park is now a place where the Kent State group along with student groups who've been prepared by their amazing classroom teachers for years, for this very day!!
So Exciting!! Watch for reports on WFMJ-21 and WKBN-27 tonight
