Boys Varsity Drops Close Contest to Solon
The Boys Varsity Lacrosse team got locked into a defensive struggle but fell to the Solon Comets 4-2. Boardman would find themselves up 1-0 after the first quarter on a goal from Luke DeJoseph. Solon would tie it up going into the half at one apiece. DeJoseph would again find the net off an assist from teammate Chase Zelesnak before the Comets would answer to tie it up again 2-2. With just 16 seconds left in the third, active sticks on defense would knock down a Solon pass which took an odd bounce and ended up in the goal to give them a 3-2 lead. Solon would score once more in the 4th while shutting out the Spartan offense to seal the victory. Lane Schubert had an excellent game with 8 saves while Mikey Montgomery would lead the team in groundballs with 5.
The team will host Mooney on Thursday for their Senior Night.

The JV Baseball Team traveled to Austintown Fitch, but unfortunately left with a 10-1 loss.
Patrick Young went 3.1 innings, giving up five earned runs and struck out two in the loss. Jimmy Putko, Anthony Ramunno, and Marco Trafficante each pitched in relief.
On the offensive side of the ball , the Spartans struggled to capitalize on their seven team hits as they managed only the single run. Young helped his cause with two hits, including a double, and an RBI. Justin Beish, Sal Ianazone, Zac Caldwell, and Andrew Lindeman each added a hit. Putko scored the lone run.

Donovan Whippo came into the seventh inning with a couple runners on and managed to work out of trouble pitching a scoreless inning with one strikeout.
Offensively, the Spartan bats didn't hit the ball all over the yard as they managed only four hits, but Tyler Kirlik made them count. Tonight at the Board of Education meeting, we officially recognized our BHS Cheer team for their incredible State Runner-Up performance in the Non-Tumble/Non-Stunting division!

Green--The Boardman Boys Track Team traveled to The Green Relays this past Friday held at Green High School and placed 2nd out of a 14 team field.
The Spartan 4x1600 Relay Team of senior Dominic Theodore, juniors Dylan White and Jonathan Burgos-Perez, and sophomore Jacob Turek placed first in a time of 18:35.44. The Shuttle Hurdle Relay Team of senior Jerry Smith and juniors Stephan Stanford, Ryan Mitchell, and Jackson Graham placed second overall in a time of 1:00.39. Boardman placed second in the 4x200 with the relay team of Stanford, Mitchell, senior Kevin Tomlin, and junior Robrick Taylor in a time of 1:30.71. The 4x800 Relay Team of seniors Adam Nigro and Chase Moore along with junior Tommy Sullivan and sophomore Donovan Simione placed second with a time of 8:23.11. The Spartan Sprint Medley of Tomlin, Taylor, senior Blake Daniels, and junior Frank Butto placed first with a time of 1:36.38.
The Boardman Distance Medley Team of White, Burgos-Perez, Turek, and senior Connor Boots placed first with a time of 10:46.22. In the lone open event, the 300 Hurdles, Stanford placed second in a time of 41.61 and Smith was sixth in a time of 44.88. The Spartan 4x100 Relay Team of Tomlin, Smith, Butto, and Danield placed seventh in a time of 45.69. The Boardman Co-Ed 4x800 of Sullivan, Nigro, Jordyn LaCivita, and Moriah Doyle set a new school record in the event with a time of 9:35.59, besting the previous mark set last year by five seconds. The Spartans concluded the track events by placing first in the 4x400 Relay with the team of Boots, Moore, Stanford, and Taylor in a time of 3:30.82.

The Spartans were away Friday night to take on Louisville. Boardman was shut out in the 1st quarter 4 to 0. The Spartans were able to control the Draw with Ava Gaps snagging 10 draw wins, but the offense kept turning over the ball. The defense did get stronger in the 2nd and 3rd quarter only allowing 1 point each quarter, but couldn't slow the Leopards down in the 4th allowing 3 goals.
Lead scorers for the Spartans were Ava Gaps with 3 goals, Lydia Kenney with 1 and Val Hoysack with 1. The top Boardman defenders were Catherine Lorenzi with 9 goal saves, Jaycey Bogerd with 2 ground balls, Suri Stevens with 1, Harlow Kolesar with 1, Anna Bowes with 2 and Val Hoysack with 3.
The Spartans next travel to Painesville Riverside tomorrow.

The team was headlined by junior, Gigi Angiuli setting a new school record in the 300 hurdles with a time of 45.67. Gigi's mark also set a new meet record at Green Memorial Stadium. The previous record of 45.80 was held by Jenna Soccorsi and was set in 1998.
The discus relay of Lili Ison (111'), Julia Forbes (99' 10") and Gwen McLane (97' 1") also brought home a meet championship with a combined mark of 307' 11".
The 4x400 relay of Gigi Angiuli, Olivia Brady, Kealia Bravo and Mia Duble ran a season best time of 4:12.85 to finish in 2nd place.
The shot put relay of Lili Ison (37' 6.5), Gwen McLane (32' 2.25") and Addison Volosin (28' 9") brought home a silver medal with a combined mark of 98' 5.75".
The 4x1600 relay of Moriah Doyle, Kealia Bravo, Haley Bero and Olivia Brady brought home a bronze medal with a time of 22:38.50.
The distance medley relay of Kealia Bravo, Mia Duble, Haley Bero and Olivia Brady brought home a bronze medal in a time of 12:58.26.
Scoring 4th place points were the shuttle hurdle relay of Avery Thompson, Sophia Newton, Gianna Berardino and Gigi Angiuli and the pole vault relay of Sami Lenhart and Liza Letunova.

The Boardman High School tennis team delivered an impressive performance on the court yesterday, defeating Warren G. Harding High School tennis team by a decisive 5-0 margin.
The Spartans showcased their depth and skill across the lineup, earning victories in all singles and doubles matches. Leading the way in singles play, Gabe Hammerton secured the win at first singles, followed by strong performances from Cooper Mraz at second singles and Andrew Walston at third singles.
In doubles action, the first doubles team of Jimmy Hunt and Sam Pickens dominated their match, helping seal the shutout victory for Boardman.
With the win, the Spartans improve their record to 6-2 on the season, continuing to build momentum as they move further into their schedule.

Lady Spartans stun state-ranked Riverside, 9–2
The Boardman Lady Spartans put together a complete performance in a statement win over state-ranked Painesville Riverside, the defending Division II state champions, by a final score of 9–2.
Boardman wasted no time applying pressure in the first inning, as the first four Spartans reached base safely. Ellie Wymer drew a walk, Mikayla Rivera ripped a double to put runners in scoring position, and Addie Rudge followed with another walk to load the bases. Addie Kowacich delivered the big blow with a bases-clearing double (she was later thrown out trying to stretch it into a triple), giving Boardman an early 3–0 lead.
That would be more than enough support for pitcher Gabi Sferra, who kept a dangerous Riverside lineup in check all night. The Beavers entered the game averaging nearly 10 runs per contest, with 90 extra-base hits and a .410 team batting average, along with several future Division I commits. Sferra, however, controlled the game from the circle and never let Riverside find a rhythm.
Boardman added to its lead in the second inning. Jocelynn Torres led off with a single and later scored on a wild pitch. Sferra worked a walk, and Lanie Joyce brought in a run with a sacrifice fly. Wymer followed with a line-drive single, and Rudge reached again via walk to set the stage for Kowacich, who delivered once more with her second bases-clearing double of the game. Kate Thames capped the inning with a bloop single down the right-field line to score Kowacich and extend the lead to 8–0.
Riverside got on the board in the fifth inning, stringing together a walk and two hits to plate a run. Boardman answered right back in the bottom half. Thames singled again, Torres followed with another base hit, and Sferra helped her own cause with an RBI groundout to push the lead to 9–1.
In the seventh, Riverside threatened after the first two batters reached base, but the Spartans held firm. A sacrifice fly brought in one run, but Sferra induced a pair of groundouts to seal the victory.
Boardman’s offense was balanced and productive, with several players contributing multiple hits. Wymer went 2-for-3 with two runs scored, Kowacich finished 2-for-3 with five RBIs, Thames was 2-for-3 with an RBI, and Torres added two hits and a run scored. Rivera chipped in a double and a run, while Rudge reached base twice and scored two runs. Joyce also added an RBI.
In the circle, Sferra earned the win, allowing just two runs on nine hits while striking out nine against one of the top offenses in the state.
Boardman will look to carry this momentum into another big matchup as they face Division III opponent Archbishop Hoban on Friday.

Austintown-The Boardman Boys Track Team improved their 2026 record to 4-0 after posting a 96-41 victory over the Austintown Fitch Falcons at Greenwood Stadium in Austintown this past Tuesday.
Junior Ethan Timblin placed first in the 110H with classmates Stephan Stanford and Ryan Mitchell placing second and third overall. Junior Robrick Taylor placed second in the 100 meter dash. The 4x200 relay team of senior Kevin Tomlin, Stanford, Taylor, and Mitchell placed first. Sophomore Jacob Turek placed first in the 1600 with senior Adam Nigro in second and senior Chase Moore in third. The Spartan 4x100 relay team of Tomlin, junior Frank Butto, senior Jerry Smith, and senior Blake Daniels placed first. The next event was the 3200 meter run which was won by sophomore Noah Belgin with freshman Cooper Moore in second and junior Dylan White in third. The 4x400 relay team of junior Timblin, Boots, Stanford, and Taylor placed first.
In the field events, senior James Mitchell placed first in the shot put and junior Brandon Shaw was third. Junior Khaled Mohammed placed first in the discus with junior Dario Radujkovic taking third. Smith placed second in the long jump. Daniels placed first in the high jump. Theodore placed second in the pole vault with freshman Ezekiel Doyle in third.
The Boardman JV Spartans traveled to Cene Park to take on the Struthers Wildcats and came out victorious by a 7-6 score. The Spartans jumped out to an early lead in the first inning and managed to hold off a Struthers rally to secure the win.
Aiden McVeigh got the ball on the mound and pitched well going 6 innings, giving up three earned runs, and striking out three to earn the win. Anthony Ramunno came into the bottom of the 7th inning and managed to get out of some trouble to secure the save with a strikeout.
Offensively, Jimmy Putko delivered the big blow in the first inning with a double and 3 RBIs. McVeigh helped his own cause with two doubles and 2 RBIs. Justin Beish added a hit and 2 RBIs. Logan Miller added a hit, two runs and was a menace on the basepaths with 3 steals. Patrick Young, Sal Ianazone, and Coben Scarsella each added a hit.
The JV Spartans improve to 3-6 and look to continue their winning streak as they hit the road again tomorrow to face Lakeview.

Boardman Tennis defeated West Branch 5-0 yesterday in home. The Spartans got off to a great start, winning all three singles; Gabe Hammerton, Charlie Beichner and Jackson Lewis. Doubles teams had great nights as well. Cooper Mraz and Sam Pickens dominated at 1 doubles, followed by Jimmy Hunt and Andrew Walston at 2nd doubles. Spartans improve to 5-1.
The Lady Spartan Track and Field team defeated Fitch 98-38.
The Lady Spartans won 14 of the 17 events on the evening.
Scoring 1st place finishes were: Gigi Angiuli winning the 100 hurdles (14.8), the 300 hurdles (47.3), the 200 (26.2) and the long jump (15' 3.5"); Moriah Doyle in the 1600 (5:50); Kealia Bravo in the 400 (1:04); Olivia Brady in the 800 (2:35); Lauryn Swantek in the 3200 (15:16); Lili Ison in the shot put (37' 3") and Tea Smith in the high jump (4' 8").

The Boardman JV Spartans were back in action Tuesday as they traveled to Columbiana to take on the Clippers. The Spartans came out with a victory 9-4.
Clayton Hoffman was dynamite on the mound as he pitched a complete game to earn the win. Hoffman went 7 innings, giving up only one earned run and striking out six.
Offensively, the Spartans received a balanced effort as 8 different players got into the hit column. Aiden McVeigh led the way with 2 hits, including a double, and an RBI. Jimmy Putko added a double and Patrick Young added a hit and 2 RBIs. Dylan Bruce and Marco Trafficante each added a hit and an RBI. Jason Clark and Zac Caldwell each contributed an RBI.
