The team effort was nothing short of incredible. Maya Flores led the way with 41 kills, 4 aces, and 12 digs. Lili Ison added 11 kills and 6 digs, while Gabriella Ball contributed 4 kills, 2 digs, and 3 blocks. Brooklyn Golubic finished with 2 kills and 2 blocks, Addie Volosin added 2 kills, and Emma Terlesky had 1 kill.
Our offense was firing on all cylinders, with Gianna Commons recording 24 assists and Emma Terlesky adding 25 assists to keep the Spartans' attack moving!

Wooster: Boardman junior Donovan Simione raced to a career-best time of 16:56 which placed him 70th out of 890 varsity and junior varsity runners at this year’s Wooster Invitational. Simione was joined by teammates senior Dylan White in 19th with a time of 16:13 and junior Jacob Turek in 38th with a time of 16:37 to lead the Spartans to an 11th place finish out of 31 Division II schools.
Joining them in the varsity race was senior Tommy Sullivan in 210th with a time of 18:01, freshman Austin Gillin in 220th with a career-best time of 18:06, and senior Jayden Mayhew in 395th in a time of 19:09.
Setting new personal bests at Wooster with Simione were sophomores Ezekiel Doyle at 20:53 and Cooper Moore at 19:46. Freshmen setting new career bests were Gillin, Ian Congo at 20:51, Jonah Gluck at 21:35, Jacoby McGee at 19:54, and Sebastian Morris at 24:48.
Next up for Boardman is the Spartan Invitational at BHS this Saturday with the varsity racing at 3pm and the JV at 3:30pm. The Invitational will welcome over 6,000 athletes and nearly 12,000 spectators to Boardman’s campus.

The Freshman Volleyball team returned to action Monday night as they traveled to Austintown Fitch for a tri match against Fitch and Canfield.
In their first game the Spartans faced off against Fitch and fell in two sets, 15-25 and 19-25. The Spartans were very solid defensively, but had a tough time putting points away against the Falcons. Kailey Hughes led the defense with 15 digs and added 2 aces. Leylani Matos also added double digit digs with 13 and she added 3 kills and an assist. Leah Brown added 9 digs and 1 kill. Evvi McKee ran the offense with 8 assists and 1 kill. Maggie Benson added 3 digs, 3 kills, and 2 aces. Angellys Castellano and Evi Moore each added a kill.
In the second game against Canfield the Spartans fell in three sets. Despite winning the first set, the girls ultimately fell 25-19, 6-25, and 20-25. McKee led the way with a great all around game with 12 assists, 10 digs, 4 kills, 3 blocks, and 1 ace. Hughes added another 14 digs, 2 aces, and 1 assist. Benson added 11 digs, 7 kills, 1 ace and 1 block. Matos added 15 digs, 3 kills, 1 block and 1 assist. Moore added an ace and a kill. Brown added 4 digs and 1 kill. Addie Ison added two blocks.
The Spartans fall to 4-4 on the season and will return to action next Wednesday in another tri match, at Louisville.

Audrey Bennett led the Spartans with seven aces, five kills, and four digs. Denayja Carter added three aces, two kills, and two digs, while Elyse Wallace recorded two aces, a kill, and six digs. Anna Tallman contributed an ace, four kills, and three digs. Andie Gerald added five digs, while Piersyn Haywood recorded a kill. Stella Rea contributed a kill and a dig, and Kylie Watts finished with a kill and three digs.

Audrey Hoff led the team with five aces, a kill, and a dig, while Victoria Suchora anchored the defense with three digs. Riley LaRocca had a strong performance from the service line with three aces. Skout Rice added two digs and an ace, while Jordann Ray contributed an ace, a kill, and a dig. Makenna Kashmer chipped in two aces, and Vernice Robinson added an ace and a dig.
The Spartans bounced back Thursday night in front of the home crowd with a victory over Howland. Hoff once again led the way with four aces, three kills, and a dig. On Tuesday, September 8, the Spartans hosted the Salem Quakers. Boardman battled through several extended and exciting rallies but came up just short of earning the victory. Giuliana Ball led the Spartans from the service line with two aces and four points while also adding a kill. Mia Corey contributed three points and played a strong defensive game with two blocks and two digs. Julianah DiDomenico added an ace, a point, and two digs, while Alexa Duble recorded a block, a kill, and a dig. Reese Majors chipped in three points, while Josey Fiddler contributed two digs.
The Spartans responded in a big way on Thursday, traveling to Warren to take on the Raiders. Boardman put together a strong team performance and captured the victory in two straight sets. Duble led the offense with an outstanding performance from the service line, recording six aces, five points, two assists, and two kills. Ball was also hot from the service line with four aces and six points while adding five assists and a kill. Corey contributed four aces, three points, a kill, and a block, while DiDomenico added two aces, three points, two kills, and a dig. BGJHS Cross Country Girls & Boys Team Place 1st at East Palestine
On Saturday morning, the BGJHS Cross Country Teams ran in the East Palestine Rotary CC Invitational at East Palestine City Park. It was another impressive performance for the BGJHS Cross Country teams. Both the BGJHS Girls' Team and Boys' Team placed first overall at the meet. The Girls' Team placed 6 runners in the top 10, and the Boys’ Team placed 4 runners in the top 10 in the race. The Girls' Team was led by Willow Yanulaitis who placed first overall. The rest of the top runners for the Girls’ Team were Selena Mallin (5th), Ariella Gerchak (6th), Savannah Thomas (8th), Alivia Brett (9th), Allana Attenberger (10th), and Marilyn Evans (12th). The Boys' Team was led by Ury Doyle, who placed first overall, and Ibrahem Mohammed, who placed second overall. The remaining top seven runners for the Boys' Team include Tony Micthell (8th), Nathan Bero (9th), Jacob Lape (11th), Ben Bruno (12th), and Grady Rowan (13th).
The Spartans will be back in action on Tuesday in their final regular-season conference meet, this time at Mill Creek MetroParks.
Lady Spartans Finish Fourth at Wooster Cross Country Invitational
The Lady Spartan Cross Country team finished fourth out of 29 teams in the Division II race Saturday at the Wooster Cross Country Invitational. The Lady Spartans matched last year’s fourth-place finish despite competing in a larger and more competitive field this year.
Conditions were cool and cloudy for the varsity race, providing good weather for racing. However, storms moved into the area shortly afterward, forcing the cancellation of the JV race. Sadly, the remainder of the Spartan runners were pulled from the starting line while warming up.
Senior Olivia Brady led the Spartans with a 10th-place finish in 18:41.6, setting a lifetime PR and improving on her previous time of 18:45.47, which was already the second-fastest mark in school history. Sophomore Kealia Bravo finished 23rd in 19:53.1, followed by junior Haley Bero in 35th with a time of 20:22.7.
Freshman Abby Marks continued her strong start to the season, finishing 57th in 20:51.7 and recording a lifetime PR. Junior Mia Duble rounded out the Spartan scoring five with a 76th-place finish in 21:08.9, also setting a lifetime PR.
Duble, senior Jordyn LaCivita, and sophomore Matilda Mausteller kept a tight pack through the first two miles of the race, with all three runners within one second of each other at the two-mile mark. LaCivita finished in 21:18.3, recording a lifetime PR, while Mausteller crossed the line in 21:34.3.
Three additional Spartans competed in the varsity race. Freshman Zara Harlan finished in 22:01.2, a lifetime PR, while sophomore Jemma Pavone finished in 22:47.1. Freshman Rylie Pavone rounded out the varsity group with a time of 23:12.2.
The Lady Spartans will return to action at home for the Boardman Spartan Invitational this Saturday, 9/19! The combined varsity and open race will begin at 2:30 PM.

Freshman Abby Marks continued her strong start to the season, finishing 57th in 20:51.7 and recording a lifetime PR. Junior Mia Duble rounded out the Spartan scoring five with a 76th-place finish in 21:08.9, also setting a lifetime PR.
Duble, senior Jordyn LaCivita, and sophomore Matilda Mausteller kept a tight pack through the first two miles of the race, with all three runners within one second of each other at the two-mile mark. LaCivita finished in 21:18.3, recording a lifetime PR, while Mausteller crossed the line in 21:34.3.
Three additional Spartans competed in the varsity race. Freshman Zara Harlan finished in 22:01.2, a lifetime PR, while sophomore Jemma Pavone finished in 22:47.1. Freshman Rylie Pavone rounded out the varsity group with a time of 23:12.2.
The Lady Spartans will return to action at home for the Boardman Spartan Invitational this Saturday, 9/19! The combined varsity and open race will begin at 2:30 PM.
Boardman Falls to Canfield, 0-5
Boardman dropped a 5-0 dual match to Canfield on Wednesday.
At first singles, Nina Sinchak battled Canfield’s top player but fell 6-2, 6-2. At second singles, Reese Murray was defeated 6-0, 6-0.
Sveva Ceccarani provided one of Boardman’s closest battles of the afternoon at third singles. Ceccarani and her opponent traded games throughout the opening set before Canfield ultimately took the tiebreaker, 6-6 (7-5). Canfield then closed out the match with a 6-2 second-set victory.
In doubles, Kenzie Tobey and Sophia Testa fell 6-1, 6-0, while Riley Zelesnak and Chloe Raghanti were defeated 6-0, 6-0.

The Spartans also brought the pressure defensively, with Korinne Hernon leading the way with 10 digs. Xy'Asia Gilford added 3 digs, while Natalie Ludban contributed 2 digs as the team worked together to shut down the Tigers.

The boys' golf team traveled to The Legends Golf Course in Massillon for the Tiger Invitational and finished in 13th place out of 20 teams. Milo Wright was again the low Spartan with a round of 84. Chase Zelesnak came in right behind Wright with a 86. Sam Hugenberg shot an 88 for the third best Boardman score. Brayden McCallum and Andrew Marks rounded out the scoring with rounds of 89 and 94 respectively.
The golfers return to action next week with a match on Monday vs. South Range and then the AAC Tournament on Tuesday.

The boys golf team traveled to Stambaugh Golf Course to take on the Cardinal Mooney Cardinals and came up short as they were defeated 166 to 176. Milo Wright led the Spartans with an impressive 39. Andrew Marks was the next lowest Boardman golfer with a 43. Even Letendre finished with a 45. Brayden McCallum, Chase Zelesnak and Sam Hugenberg all had rounds of 49.

Boardman Girls Tennis Defeats Howland, 4-1
The Boardman girls tennis team picked up another strong victory Tuesday, defeating Howland 4-1 to improve to 11-3 overall and 6-2 in the AAC.
Boardman came out strong in doubles play winning both matches. Reese Murray and Sveva Ceccarani cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 victory at first doubles, while Kenzie Tobey and Sophia Testa posted an identical 6-1, 6-1 win at second doubles.
Second singles, Vasilija Crnjak earned the 3rd match point and confirmed the team win next earning a 6-3, 6-1 victory.
Katie Moser followed with a hard-fought win at third singles, defeating her opponent 4-6, 6-2, 11-9 in a third-set super tiebreak.
First singles, Nina Sinchak was the last tough battle of the night, also finishing in a third set super tiebreak. Unfortunately she could not pick up the win despite the close match and lost 7-5, 4-6, 7-10.
Boardman also saw several strong results in exhibition and JV play. Riley Zelesnak earned a 7-5 singles victory. In doubles, Addison Fiddler and Sam Stanton won 6-3, while Chloe Smith and Yaqi Lu recorded a dominant 6-0 victory. Chloe Raghanti and Reagan Ridgley fell just short, 4-6.
