The Spartans were led by: Kylee Vittori (4 kills, 1 ace, and 2 digs), Brooklyn Bailey (4 kills, 2 aces, 6 assists, and 1 dig), Monica Matos (2 kills, 1 block, and 6 digs), Kat Rudiak (2 kills, 1 block, 8 assists, and 4 digs), Maggie Benson (3 kills, 1 block, and 2 digs). Riley Seydlorsky added 1 kill and 2 digs, Presley Holmes added 1 ace and 2 digs at libero. Kenzie Dugan-Boyer and Autumn Miller contributed to the Spartans' hard fight against the Bulldogs.

The 7th grade Spartans football team couldn't overcome a few costly mistakes on Tuesday night as they battled rival Austintown Fitch to a 6-6 tie.
After a seesaw affair in the first half, with the Spartans turning the ball over and punting on two of their possessions while Fitch was forced into a punt and a turnover on downs, the Spartans were finally able to break the seal toward the end of the first half.
Maddox Ison found the endzone on a 13-yard rush to give the Spartans a 6-0 lead.
To end the half, Jayden Pixley came up with a huge hit that jarred the ball loose and Grady Gozur picked it up and raced 55 yards for what appeared to be another Spartans touchdown. However, the touchdown was taken off the board due to a penalty, and the Spartans went into the break leading 6-0.
Late in the second half, the Spartans had another opportunity to extend their lead. On a punt, the Spartans were able to sack the Fitch punter and set themselves up with good field position. However, a penalty and putting the ball on the turf caused the Spartans to turn the ball over on downs.
On Austintown's last drive of the game, the Falcons were able to tie the game at 6-6 on a touchdown run from Cason Qualls. The two-point conversion attempt failed, however, after a botched snap.
With 65 yards to go and limited time remaining, the Spartans tried to put together one final drive, but ultimately ran out of time as the game ended in a 6-6 tie.
The Spartans move to 2-1-1 on the season.
Offensively, the Spartans were led by Maddox Ison, who had 100 yards on the ground on 10 carries. Grady Gozur provided a steady presence in the backfield, picking up some pivotal yards to extend drives. Gozur carried the ball eight times for 20 yards.
Defensively, Jeyden Matos-Martinez led the way with eight tackles and an assist. Parker Birch was next with three tackles. John Balogh, KJ Gipson and Gozur each added two tackles, while Gipson and Gozur also recorded an assist.
Pixley had a huge tackle that led to a fumble, which was recovered by Gozur. Pixley also added an assist.
Jaceon LaBooth, Arjenis Nunez, Roric Stanton, Rome Jackson, Lamar Wainwright, Casey Meyer and Cayden Voss each added a tackle. Meyer, Voss and Jackson also recorded an assist, while Dennis Golubic added an assist.
Voss recorded a QB hurry and Gipson also added a hurry.
The Spartans will be back in action next Thursday when they return home to face Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy at 5:30 PM.

Spartans and Braves End Even After Eighty
The boys varsity soccer team traveled to Kinsman on Tuesday afternoon to take on the Badger Braves on their home field. The Spartans would dominate possesion in the first half of the contest with the Braves only crossing midfield a handful of times. However the possesion and chances did not fall for the Spartans and the half would end 0-0. The second half would shock the Spartans as the Braves scored on a counter minutes after the restart. The Spartans went back to dominating the ball and possesion but findind converting chances today to be difficult. Junior Oswaldo Salinas would finally equalize after sixty seven minutes of play with the goal assisted by freshman Owen Papini. A winner however would not be found even though multiple dangerous chances were created by the Spartans. Goalkeeper Ben Kelso would register 7 saves in the contest.
The varsity team record falls to 1-3-2.

After halftime, the Spartans seemed even more motivated to put goals on the board as in the first 10 minutes they had about eight shots on goal. A Zavyer Magada penalty put the game away for the Spartans as they would take the win 2-0.
The JV move to 2-2-1 on the season.

BGJHS Girls & Boys Cross Country Teams Both Place 1st at Poland Meet
On Tuesday evening, the BGJHS Cross Country Teams were back in Suburban League action at Poland Township Park versus several local teams. It was an impressive performance on a difficult course for the BGJHS Cross Country teams. Both the BGJHS Girls' and Boys' Teams took first place overall. The Boys' Team placed 5 runners in the top 10 for the evening. The top seven runners for the Boys' Team were Ury Doyle (2nd), Ibrahem Mohmmned (3rd), Jacob Lape (4th), Tony Micthell (7th), Nathan Bero (9th), Grady Rowan (11th), and Ben Bruno (13th). The top seven runners for the Girls' team were Willow Yanulaitis (3rd), Ariella Gerchak (8th), Savannah Thomas (9th), Selena Mallin (10th), Lydia Schaper (12th), Marilyn Evans (18th), and Allana Attenberger (20th). The team will be back in action on Saturday at the East Palestine Rotary Invitational.

The Boardman 8th grade Spartans football team took down rival Austintown Fitch in an instant classic on Thursday night, using a 24-point third quarter to rally for a thrilling 38-30 victory and remain unbeaten at 4-0.
Boardman started a bit flat on both sides of the ball, and the Falcons took advantage early. Austintown struck first when Corey McRae found the endzone on a 49-yard touchdown run and added the two-point conversion to give the Falcons an 8-0 lead.
At the beginning of the second quarter, the Spartans answered back to knot the game at 8. Cam Brown connected with Trentan Clinkscale on a pass, and Clinkscale did the rest, taking the reception 71 yards to the endzone. DJ Harper added the two-point conversion to tie the game.
However, the Falcons would regain the lead just before halftime. After a pass set Austintown up with a first-and-goal opportunity, McRae found the endzone again, this time from one yard out, to give the Falcons a 14-8 lead heading into the break.
Austintown came out of halftime right where they left off offensively. Anderson Pflug connected with Kailen Patterson on a 30-yard touchdown pass, and Pflug then found Mekhi Hill in the endzone for the two-point conversion to extend the Falcons' lead to 22-8.
After that, it was all Spartans.
On the next series, Clinkscale found some open space and sprinted 49 yards for a touchdown to cut into the Austintown lead. TJ Pixley added the two-point conversion to make it 22-16.
The Spartans' defense then forced a punt, giving the offense another opportunity. Boardman put together a solid drive that was capped off by an 18-yard touchdown run by Clinkscale. Pixley once again added the two-point conversion, giving the Spartans their first lead of the night at 24-22.
On the next Falcons' possession, Harper came up with a huge play, picking off an Austintown pass and returning it 40 yards for a touchdown. Aaron Boyer added the two-point conversion, giving the Spartans a 32-22 advantage.
After holding the Falcons on defense, the Spartans looked to ice the game, but a costly fumble gave Austintown new life. The Falcons capitalized on the mistake and put together a strong drive, with McRae finding the endzone for the third time. He added the two-point conversion to bring the Falcons within two at 32-30.
But the Spartans' offense had one more answer.
After some huge blocks up front and a pivotal third-down conversion, Clinkscale found the endzone once again, breaking free for a 41-yard touchdown run to put Boardman back up 38-30.
The Spartans' defense then came up with the final stop of the night, forcing a turnover on downs to seal the victory and send the Spartans home with an undefeated 4-0 record.
Boardman finished the night with 305 yards of total offense. Clinkscale led the charge, rushing for 156 yards on 12 carries while adding 71 yards through the air. He found the endzone four times in the game.
Boyer rushed for 34 yards on six carries, Pixley added 30 yards on five carries, and Harper contributed 16 yards on five carries.
Defensively, the Spartans held Austintown to 191 yards of total offense and came up with several big plays down the stretch to keep the Falcons behind the sticks and off the scoreboard when it mattered most.

Lafayette Jackson finished with two tackles and an assist, while Brayden Asimakopoulos recorded two tackles and an assist. Lucas Prozy had two tackles, including one for a loss.

Boardman Maroon 8th Grade Volleyball
The Boardman Maroon 8th Grade Volleyball team continued its season with three matches during the week of August 31–September 3. The Spartans opened the week with an impressive victory over Howland before battling through two tough losses against Canfield and Austintown Blue. Boardman now sits at 2-6 overall and continues to show plenty of fight and improvement as the season progresses.
The Spartans opened the week Monday evening with an energetic performance against the Howland Tigers. Boardman carried that energy and enthusiasm through two straight sets to earn the victory. Julianah DiDomenico led the Spartans from the service line with three aces and seven points while adding a kill. Mia Corey also had a strong performance with three aces, three points, and three digs. Giuliana Ball contributed four points, two assists, and two kills, while Reese Majors added two aces and four points. Nalyna Italiano chipped in two aces, a point, and a dig. Josey Fiddler added a point, two kills, and a dig, while Alexa Duble recorded two kills. Mya Majors and Mila Dovas each contributed a kill in the Spartan victory.
On Wednesday, Boardman traveled to Canfield to take on the Cardinals. The Spartans played hard but struggled to find a consistent rhythm and ultimately fell to Canfield. Corey led the defensive effort with four digs and added a kill at the net. DiDomenico led the offense with two aces while adding an assist, a kill, and a dig. Ball contributed a point, an assist, and two digs, while Dovas had a strong night at the net with two kills and a block. Fiddler added a point and two digs, while Italiano contributed a point and a dig.
The Spartans wrapped up the week Thursday evening at home against Austintown Blue. Despite several exciting and lengthy rallies, Boardman fell in two sets. The Spartans continued to battle right down to the final point. Corey was a force at the net with four blocks and a dig while also contributing two aces, four points, and two kills. Fiddler led the Spartans from the service line with an impressive three aces and eight points while adding two digs defensively. Ball contributed an ace, five points, and a kill, while Duble added a block, a dig, and a kill. Italiano anchored the defense with four digs and added a service point. Despite the two losses to close the week, the Spartans continue to demonstrate energy, resilience, and a willingness to battle through every rally. Boardman will look to get back in the win column when they return home Tuesday, September 8, to take on the Salem Quakers.

Boardman White 7th Grade Volleyball
The Boardman White 7th Grade Volleyball team continued its season with three matches during the week of August 31–September 3. The Spartans picked up an impressive victory over Austintown Red on Wednesday while continuing to battle and improve throughout the week. Boardman now sits at 2-6 overall.
The Spartans opened the week on Monday night with a tough road match against Austintown Blue. Boardman battled hard but ultimately fell in two sets. Audrey Hoff led the Spartans with an ace, three kills, and four digs, while Vernice Robinson added three aces and two digs. Makenna Kashmer contributed an ace, a kill, and a dig, while Alina Castellanos recorded two digs to help lead the defensive effort. Jordann Ray and Skout Rice each added an ace, while Ava Robinson rounded out the defense with a dig.
On Wednesday, the Spartans bounced back with an impressive victory over Austintown Red. Hoff once again led the way with an outstanding performance, recording 10 aces, two kills, and three digs. Kashmer played a major role in the victory with six aces, a kill, and two digs. Ray contributed four kills and an ace, while Robinson added two aces and a dig. Castellanos added two digs, while Riley LaRocca and Ava Robinson each contributed a dig.
Boardman wrapped up the week on Thursday with a road trip to Salem to take on the Quakers. The Spartans fought hard but ultimately fell to Salem in two sets. The Spartans played with tremendous energy and passion throughout the match to earn the well-deserved victory.
Boardman returned to action on Wednesday, September 2, against Canfield. The Spartans played with great energy but ultimately fell to the Cardinals, 2-0. Ball once again led the way with 10 aces and two kills. Montgomery contributed four points, while Samantha Garland added an ace, a point, a block, and a kill. Gianna McKinnon contributed two digs, while Dillard and Ross each added a kill.

Lady Spartans Take First at Ashley White Invitational
The Lady Spartan Cross Country team continued their strong start to the 2026 season Saturday at the Ashley White Invitational hosted by Marlington High School, taking first place with 59 points. The race was scored using separate large-school and small-school divisions, with the Lady Spartans competing in the large-school division. However, their performance was strong enough to earn first even if all teams were scored against each other.
Senior Olivia Brady once again led the Spartans, finishing 2nd overall in 19:16.14. Sophomore Kealia Bravo followed with a 7th-place finish in 20:26.85, earning a season-best time. Junior Haley Bero also recorded a season best, finishing 9th in 20:39.79.
Freshman Abby Marks continued her strong start to her first high school season, placing 19th in 21:31.75. Junior Mia Duble rounded out the scoring five with a 22nd-place finish in 21:37.45, also recording a season-best time.
Sophomore Matilda Mausteller finished 25th in 21:45.07, earning a season best, while senior Jordyn LaCivita placed 30th in 22:05.41, setting a lifetime personal record. Freshman Zara Harlan also recorded a lifetime PR, finishing 35th in 22:34.65. Fellow freshman Rylie Pavone followed with another lifetime PR, finishing 41st in 22:54.16. Sophomore Jemma Pavone rounded out the Spartan varsity lineup, placing 47th in 23:11.75.
With five lifetime PRs, three season PRs, and four course PRs throughout the entire team, the Lady Spartans saw strong performances from the whole roster.
The Lady Spartans will return to action this Saturday, September 12, at the quick and competitive Wooster Cross Country Invitational. The varsity race will begin at 9:30 AM, followed by the open race at 10:35.

The Freshman Volleyball team returned to action Saturday morning as they traveled to Campbell Memorial for a quad match against Campbell, Mineral Ridge, and Struthers. The girls played very well and came away with three consecutive wins!

Evvi McKee paced the offense with 9 assists, 1 ace, and 1 kill. Kailey Hughes manned the defense with 3 digs, 1 assist, and an ace. Leah Brown and Leylani Matos each added 2 aces, 3 kills, and 1 dig. Angellys Castellano added an ace, 1 kill, and an assist. Addie Ison added 3 kills from the middle as well.
In Game 2, Boardman took down Mineral Ridge once again in two sets, 25-20 and 25-19. Hughes was all over defensively with 7 digs and an ace. McKee added another 9 assists, 2 aces, and 1 dig. Benson continued her strong day with 7 kills and a dig. Matos added 3 kills, 2 aces, 2 digs, a block, and an assist with a great all around game. Brown added 1 ace, 1 kill, and 1 dig. Castellano added a dig and Ison added a block.
Finally in Game 3 the Spartans saw their first adversity as they fell in the first set, but managed to bounce back to win the next two defeated Struthers in three, 22-25, 25-17, and 25-15. Brown led the way this time with an all around game of 7 kills, 4 digs, and an ace. Benson continued her good run adding 9 more kills, 3 aces, and 2 digs. McKee added a season high 14 assists, 2 aces, and 1 kill. Hughes added 7 digs and an ace. Matos added 3 aces, 2 kills, and a dig. Ison added 3 kills and a block. Castellanos provided great energy and defense as well.
With the three wins, the Spartans improve to 4-2 on the season and will have a bit of a break before returning to action on Monday, September 14 they host Austintown and Canfield for a tri-match.

The 7th grade Spartans fought tooth and nail but fell 20-14 on Wednesday against the Youngstown Defenders.
After putting the ball on the turf on their first drive, the Spartans answered back in the second quarter to tie the game before halftime. Maddox Ison found the end zone on an 8-yard touchdown run to get the Spartans on the board.
The Spartans allowed a touchdown in the third quarter, but responded in the fourth quarter with another Ison touchdown. KJ Gipson then added the two-point conversion to tie the game at 14-14.
However, the Spartans' defense couldn't get off the field on the Defenders' next drive, allowing Youngstown to score a late fourth-quarter touchdown and take a 20-14 lead. On the ensuing drive, the Spartans threw an interception that sealed their fate as they dropped their first game of the season, 20-14, and moved to 2-1 on the year.
Offensively, Ison led the way for the Spartans with 83 rushing yards and two touchdowns.
The Spartans will look to bounce back on Tuesday when they travel to Austintown for a 5:30 PM start.
The Boardman 8th-grade Spartans football team remained unbeaten with their 32-6 victory over the Youngstown Defenders on Wednesday night. The Spartans were led by DJ Harper, who had a game to remember as Boardman improved to 3-0 on the season.
Things started slow for the Spartans as both teams were held scoreless in the first quarter. Boardman put together a solid drive to end the first quarter and start the second quarter, but the Spartans fumbled the ball. A Youngstown defender picked up the fumble and began racing down the sideline, but Trentan Clinkscale never gave up on the play. Clinkscale raced him down from behind and stripped the ball loose, with Cam Brown recovering for the Spartans at their 45-yard line.
On the very next play, DJ Harper found a hole on the outside thanks to some great blocks up front and raced 55 yards to the end zone to give Boardman a 6-0 lead.
With just :22 seconds left in the first half, the Spartans came up with another big play. On 4th down, Clinkscale took the handoff and then threw to TJ Pixley for a 25-yard gain, bringing the Spartans down to the Defenders' 9-yard line. On the final play of the half, Cam Brown threw a beautiful fade pass to Omar Askar in the back of the end zone for the touchdown, giving Boardman a 12-0 lead heading into halftime.
The Spartans came out firing in the second half, scoring 20 points in the third quarter alone.

On the next Defenders possession, Harper came up with one of the biggest plays of the night. Harper picked off a pass one-handed, pinned the ball against his back and raced down the sideline for a 49-yard interception return for a touchdown. The incredible play gave Boardman a 32-6 lead.

Spartans Tennis Split Singles, Fall Short in Doubles resulting in 2-3 Score vs Lake
The Boardman girls tennis team battled though another competitive match Wednesday vs Lake, earning two victories in singles play but ultimately falling in the team competition.
At first singles, Nina Sinchak continued her strong season with a convincing 6-3, 6-1 victory. Sinchak controlled the match from the baseline and pulled away in the second set to secure Boardman’s first point.
Vasilija Crnjak followed with another singles win at second singles, defeating her opponent 6-3, 6-3. After taking the opening set, she maintained her composure and consistency to close out the match in straight sets.
At third singles, Katie Moser faced a tough battle but came up short, falling 3-6, 2-6. Despite the loss, Moser continued to compete through each game against a challenging opponent.
In first doubles, Reese Murray and Kenzie Tobey fought hard but were defeated 3-6, 1-6. The pair battled through long games but were unable to overcome their opponents’ steady play.
At second doubles, Sophia Testa and Riley Zelesnak also faced a difficult matchup, falling 2-6, 0-6.
The Spartans continue their season with a winning record, 9-3.
The Spartans rolled into Mooney ready to take on the Cardinals. The Spartans had to battled back in their first set to best Mooney 25-23 and kept the ball rolling with a 25-14 victory to best Mooney.

The Spartans will be back on the road Tuesday when they travel to Poland. The match will begin at the conclusion of the JV match.
The Boardman Spartans boys golf team battled Howland on Wednesday, September 2, but came up just short, falling 162–157 in an All-American Conference matchup.
Boardman was led by Milo Wright, who carded a team-best 38. Andrew Marks followed with a 39, while Chase Zelesnak posted a 42 and Evan Letendre finished with a 43. Brayden McCallum shot a 44, and Sam Hugenberg rounded out the Spartans with a 47.
The Spartans’ four counting scores totaled 162, while Howland’s top four combined for 157.
Despite the loss, the Spartans continue to compete hard and look to build on each match as the season progresses.
