Spartans vs. Austintown
The Boardman Spartans football team battled hard but fell just short against the Youngstown Defenders, losing 13–10 in a hard-fought contest. The Spartans played with determination and toughness throughout the game, and we are incredibly proud of the effort shown by the entire team and especially our seniors.
The defense set the tone with a fast and aggressive performance. Frankie Butto led the way with an impressive 16 tackles, while Isiah Payne came up with a key interception. The Spartans' defense continued to compete at a high level from start to finish.
Special teams also made important contributions. Oswaldo Salinas De Leon connected on a 23-yard field goal, while Ryan Mitchell provided strong punting and return play.
Although the Spartans came up short on the scoreboard, the team showed heart, effort, and pride. We are proud of our seniors and the entire Spartan football family for leaving it all on the field.

Boardman Girls Tennis Secures Thrilling 3-2 Win Over Howland
The Boardman Girls Tennis Team remained undefeated Thursday, August 20, earning a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Howland on the road. The Spartans improved to 7-0 overall and 3-0 in AAC play after a match that came down to the final doubles court.
Boardman got its first point at No. 1 singles, where Nina Sinchak had a slow start in the first set but battled to a 7-5, 6-4 victory over Avery Gebhardt. Howland answered at No. 2 singles, defeating Boardman freshman Sveva Ceccarani 6-4, 6-2. At No. 3 singles, Katie Moser also fell in a close match, playing 3 full sets 6-3, 6-6 (2-7), 0-6, putting the Spartans in a 1-2 hole heading into doubles.
With their backs against the wall, Boardman’s doubles teams delivered. Stella Mitchell and Reese Murray fought back after dropping the first set, defeating Penelope Morris and Ximena Martinez 3-6, 6-0, 6-4 to even the match at 2-2.
That left the match in the hands of Riley Zelesnak and Kenzie Tobey at No. 2 doubles. The duo came through when the Spartans needed them most, defeating Anastasia Levidiotis and Aubrey Tolley 1-6, 6-4, 6-2 to clinch the decisive third point and secure the 3-2 Boardman victory.
Boardman also saw action in several exhibition matches playing 1 set each throughout the afternoon. Sophia Testa competed in an exhibition singles match winning 6-4, while Addi Fiddler and Reagan Ridgley teamed up in an exhibition doubles match unfortunately falling 3-6. Chloe Smith and Sam Stanton had long battle going 6-6 and participating in a set tie break where the Spartans came on top (7-2). Doubles Team Yaqi Lu and Chloe Raghanti were the last of the players that also took part in exhibition doubles play winning 6-0, giving additional Spartans valuable match experience.
The Spartans showed tremendous composure and teamwork, rallying after a tough singles round to win both doubles matches and remain unbeaten on the season.

The Spartans hosted Cardinal Mooney on Thursday night for an intense match of soccer. The Cardinals came into Spartan Stadium with physicality, but the Spartans matched their effort. The first goal was earned by the Spartans at the 15 minute mark. Freshmen Drixon Wibowo was in the box attacking goal and was fouled. A penalty was awarded, and converted by Sophomore Diego Salinas. The Spartans earned another penalty kick in the later stages of the first half but the effort was saved by the Cardinals. The teams would go into halftime 1-0, advantage Spartans.
The second half started just as the first ended. Physicality, speed, and open play throughout. A free kick just outside the box in the 52 minute set the Spartans up for a prime chance. Spartan Golf Excels at South Range Invitational
On Wednesday, August 19, the Boardman Spartans enjoyed a strong showing at the South Range Invitational, led by senior Gianna Ross and sophomore Stella Mitchell.
Ross captured medalist honors and 1st place, carding an impressive 80 with three birdies. Mitchell finished in 3rd place with an 86, including one birdie.

The Boardman Glenwood 8th Grade Football Team opened its season in impressive fashion Wednesday, earning a dominant 28-0 victory over the Poland Bulldogs.
Despite struggling out of the gate with a few botched snaps as the Spartans worked through some opening-game jitters, Boardman quickly found its rhythm and took control of the game. The Spartans scored three times in the first quarter to build a commanding early lead.
On Boardman's first drive of the game, Aaron Boyer found a seam and rushed free for a 56-yard touchdown run. DJ Harper capped off the drive with a successful two-point conversion to give the Spartans an 8-0 lead.
On the Spartans' next series, Trentan Clinkscale found room on the edge and raced down the sideline for a 59-yard touchdown. Poland's next possession ended in disaster for the Bulldogs when Lafayette Jackson intercepted a pass from Angelo Davis and returned it 45 yards for a touchdown. Clinkscale then caught the two-point conversion from Mason Acevedo, giving Boardman a 22-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.
The Spartan defense continued to make plays on Poland's next drive. Trent Anderson intercepted another Davis pass and returned it 24 yards deep into Bulldog territory. However, just two plays later, Boardman put the ball on the turf. Clinkscale quickly came to the rescue, picking up the loose ball and racing 51 yards down the sideline for his second touchdown of the game to make the score 28-0.
That would be all the scoring on the night, as both teams were held scoreless in the second half.
The Spartans' defense was dominant throughout the game, holding Poland to just 63 yards of total offense. Lucas Prozy and Landen Prozy led the way with seven tackles each. Landen added four assists and two sacks, while Lucas recorded two assists and one sack.
DJ Neely finished with four tackles and three assists. Levi Berg and Trent Anderson each added two tackles. Clinkscale, Dom Prozy, Owen Bean, Sam Lemin, and Lafayette Jackson each recorded one tackle. Jackson and Clinkscale also added an assist, while Brayden Asimakopoulos and Joe Saukuru each contributed an assist.
Offensively, the Spartans totaled 219 yards, with 10 different players touching the football. Clinkscale led the way with three carries for 117 yards and two touchdowns. Boyer made the most of his lone carry, rushing for 56 yards and a touchdown. TJ Pixley added two carries for 20 yards.
With the victory, the Spartans improve to 1-0 on the season. Boardman will look to continue its strong start next Wednesday when it welcomes West Branch to Boardman for a 6:45 PM kickoff.

With just over three minutes remaining in the game, Arjenis Nunez came up with a huge blocked punt. Amare West-Ditullio returned the ball inside the Poland 20-yard line, giving the Spartans new life and setting up a dramatic finish.
Facing fourth-and-10 with the game on the line, Grady Gozur took the snap on a designed quarterback run, scampered 10 yards, and dove into the end zone to tie the game at 6-6 with just :49 remaining. Boardman then went for the win on the two-point conversion. Ison took the handoff on an end-around and handed the ball to KJ Gipson, who raced into the end zone to give the Spartans an 8-6 lead.
Poland was able to move the ball into Boardman territory on its final possession following several pass completions, but the Spartan defense came through one final time. Ison delivered a strip-sack, and Cayden Voss recovered the fumble to seal Boardman's first win of the season in heroic fashion.

Boardman Girls Tennis Dominates Field High School
The Boardman Girls Tennis Team earned a strong victory over Field High School today, Wednesday, August 19th putting together an impressive performance in both singles and doubles play.
Senior captain Nina Sinchak set the tone at first singles with a commanding 6-0, 6-0 victory. Katie Moser followed with a solid 6-3, 6-3 win at second singles.
In doubles action, Reese Murray and Kenzie Tobey cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 victory at first doubles, while Chloe Raghanti and Riley Zelesnak delivered another dominant 6-0, 6-0 win at second doubles.
Field arrived with only six players, resulting in a forfeit at third singles and giving Boardman another point toward the team victory.
The Spartans showed strong consistency and teamwork throughout today’s match, finishing the day with an impressive overall performance. The Spartans are now 6-0 with two conference wins.
Spartans Tennis Battle Past Austintown Fitch, 4-1
The Boardman Girls Tennis Team continued its strong start to the season with a 4-1 victory over Austintown Fitch on Tuesday, August 18, improving to 5-0 overall and 2-0 in the AAC.
Boardman came out strong in singles play. Nina Sinchak earned a convincing 6-2, 6-2 win at first singles, while Sveva Ceccarani battled to a 6-4, 6-1 victory at second singles. Katie Moser dominated at third singles, cruising to a 6-0, 6-0 shutout.
In doubles, Sophia Testa and Reagan Ridgley picked up a solid 6-3, 6-2 win at second doubles. First doubles Reese Murray and Kenzie Tobey fought through a back-and-forth match, winning the second set 6-4 after dropping the first 4-6 before ultimately falling in a tight 8-10 match tiebreaker.
The Spartans also got valuable exhibition action from several players, including Riley Zelesnak and Chloe Raghanti, who won 6-1, as well as Addison Fiddler and Chloe Smith, who earned a 6-0 victory. Samantha Stanton and Chloe Raghanti also picked up a 6-1 exhibition win.
Boardman continues to build momentum early in the season, using strong singles play and competitive doubles matches to secure another team victory.

Boardman Girls Tennis 5-0 Victory Over Warren G. Harding
The Boardman girls tennis team continued its strong start to the season Thursday, cruising to a dominant 5-0 victory over Warren G. Harding. The win improves the Spartans to 4-0 overall and keeps them undefeated.
Boardman controlled the match from the opening singles court, sweeping all three singles contests.
At first singles, Nina Sinchak delivered a flawless performance, defeating her opponent 6-0, 6-0. Vasilija Crnjak followed with a victory at second singles, 6-1, 6-1. At third singles, Katie Moser added another straight-set shutout, defeating her opponent 6-0, 6-0.
The Spartans carried that momentum into doubles play, where both teams also earned straight-set victories.
At first doubles, Sveva Ceccarani and Reese Murray cruised past their opponents 6-0, 6-0. Sophia Testa and Riley Zelesnak completed the doubles sweep at second doubles, defeating their 2nd doubles by the same 6-0, 6-0 score.
Boardman’s impressive performance resulted in a clean 5-0 team victory, with the Spartans dropping just two game across all five matches.
The Spartans now move to 4-0 on the season, carrying plenty of momentum into their next match.

Vasilija battled hard but fell 3–6, 5–7 in a competitive match.
