The Spartans fought hard last night but came up short against Warren JFK. They battled through five long sets, with scores of 22-25, 28-26, 24-26, 25-16, and 11-15.
The Spartans were led by Maya Flores, who recorded 43 kills and 19 digs. Lili Ison continued to lead the dominant offense with 9 kills and 3 blocks, while Addie Volosin contributed 4 kills and Gabriella Ball added 4 blocks.
The Spartan defense was anchored by Korinne Hernon, who tallied 30 digs. Gianna Commons contributed 28 assists and 18 digs, while Emma Terlesky added 19 assists and 9 digs.

Spartans Tie Eagles in Slow Motion

The Boardman Glenwood 7th Grade Spartans continued their impressive start to the season Wednesday evening, earning a dominant 44-0 victory over the West Branch Warriors. The win improves the Spartans to 2-0 on the season.
Boardman wasted no time getting on the scoreboard. On the first play of the game, West Branch fumbled, and Jaceon LaBooth picked up the loose ball and stumbled his way into the end zone for a touchdown. Just 20 seconds into the game, the Spartans had taken a 6-0 lead.
The defense continued to make plays on West Branch's ensuing possession. Facing fourth down and long, Warriors quarterback Brandt Stryffeler attempted a pass that was intercepted by Parker Birch, who returned it 35 yards to the West Branch 17-yard line.
The Spartans quickly took advantage of the field position. Maddox Ison set up the drive with a 13-yard gain, and quarterback Grady Gozur capped it off with a 4-yard touchdown run to extend Boardman's lead to 12-0.
Later in the first quarter, Ison took an end-around handoff and raced 44 yards to the end zone. Birch added the two-point conversion, giving the Spartans a commanding 20-0 lead.
Boardman's defense continued to create turnovers in the second quarter. Stryffeler's pass was intercepted once again, this time by Scott Stanford, who returned it 56 yards for a touchdown. Ison added the two-point conversion, pushing the Spartans' advantage to 28-0.
The scoring was not finished in the first half. After forcing a turnover on downs, Boardman put together another strong drive. On the final play from scrimmage of the first half, Gozur found the end zone from three yards out for his second touchdown of the game. CJ Jennings added the two-point conversion, and the Spartans headed into halftime with a 36-0 lead.
Boardman added one more score on its opening drive of the second half. Caleb Mitchell broke free for a 30-yard gain, and on the following play, Jennings raced 34 yards for a touchdown. Mitchell added the two-point conversion to give the Spartans a 44-0 advantage, which would stand as the final score.
The Spartans displayed a balanced rushing attack, with 12 different players carrying the football. Ison led the way with 61 rushing yards, while Jennings added 37 yards. Mitchell rushed for 30 yards, Gozur added 15, Jayden Pixley had 14, Amare West-Ditullio contributed 10, and Keon Spivey added nine yards. Dennis Golubic, Ryder Bright, Rome Jackson, Maliik Cleveland, and Birch combined for eight additional yards.

The Spartans rode the legs of tailback Trentan Clinkscale all evening, as he put together a performance to remember. On Boardman’s first offensive play of the game, Clinkscale took the handoff and raced 61 yards for a touchdown, aided by several key blocks, including strong work up front from Nicholas DiRocco and Evan Miller.
West Branch answered on its next possession when quarterback Jensen Sanor connected with Tyler Brink on a 25-yard touchdown pass. Both teams were unsuccessful on their two-point attempts, leaving the score tied at 6-6.
Boardman responded on its ensuing drive. Darrian Harper found the end zone from 10 yards out, and Aaron Boyer added the two-point conversion to give the Spartans a 14-6 lead early in the second quarter. That score held through halftime as both teams regrouped for the second half.
The Spartans opened the second half with a fumble, but the defense quickly responded by forcing West Branch to punt. Clinkscale then made his presence felt once again, returning the punt 66 yards for a touchdown. TJ Pixley added the two-point conversion, extending Boardman’s lead to 22-6.

The Boardman Freshman Volleyball team earned their first win of the season in dominating fashion defeating Akron Firestone in two sets, 25-5 and 25-7. The girls used a complete team effort to control the game from start to finish.
Leah Brown was dominant from the service line with 10 aces and also added 3 kills and 1 dig. Evvi McKee led the offense with 8 assists as well as 2 kills and an ace. Maggie Benson added 4 aces, 2 kills, and 2 digs. Leylani Matos added an ace, 5 kills, and 1 dig. Kailey Hughes provided great defense from the libero position and added an ace. Evi Moore (1 block) and Addie Ison (1 kill) led the defense from the middle and Angellys Castellano added a dig.

Spartans Battle Canfield
The Boardman Girls Tennis team faced a tough Canfield squad on Tuesday, falling 0-5 in the varsity match.
Nina Sinchak took charge of her match and had a strong start but ultimately falling 3-6, 6-0. Katie Moser fought hard at second singles but lost 0-6, 1-6, while Sophia Testa also battled at third singles, falling 1-6, 5-7.
At first doubles, Vasilija Crnjak and Sveva Ceccarani continued to compete against a strong Canfield pair losing 1-6, 0-6. Second doubles Reese Murray and Kenzie Tobey had one of the closest matches of the day, battling through a first-set tiebreak before ultimately falling 6-7, 3-6.
The Spartans also saw strong effort in exhibition play. Chloe Raghanti and Riley Zelesnak battled together, Chloe Smith and Sam Stanton picked up a 6-2 win, and Reagan Ridgley and Addison Fiddler earned a 6-3 victory. Yaqi Lu and Chloe Raghanti teamed up for a dominant 6-0 win, while Riley Zelesnak and Katie Moser added another 6-3 exhibition victory.
The Lady Spartans took on the West Branch Warriors at home. Though they fought hard, the Lady Spartans ultimately dropped both sets to the Warriors 25-14 and 25-11. Defensively, the Lady Spartans were led by Kylee Vittori with 7 digs and Kenzie Dugan-Boyer with 5 digs.

The Spartans took on the West Branch Warriors Tuesday night at home. The Warriors would strike first blood with a converted penalty in the middle of the first half. They then doubled their advantage before the Spartans could respond. Senior Mamadi Toure netted for the Spartans with an assist by freshman Drixon Wibowo. However, the Warriors found the net two more times before half. The game went into halftime 4-1, advantage West Branch. The Spartans would hold their own and found the back of the net again through Toure with 28 minutes to play in the second quarter. The game would end with six goals total, and a final score of 4-2. Ben Kelso’s efforts in net would earn him 13 saves on the night.

The Freshman Volleyball team opened their season Monday night with a home contest against Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy (CVCA). The girls battled and played hard, but fell in two sets, 12-25 and 20-25, against a tough opponent.
Evvi McKee led the offense with 1 Ace, 1 Kill, and 6 assists. Leah Brown and Kailey Hughes were key members of the defense as Brown had 2 Kills and 9 Digs while Hughes added 1 Assist and 6 Digs. Maggie Benson added 1 Kill, 1 Assist and 2 Digs. Leylani Matos added 2 Kills and 4 Digs. Evi Moore added 1 Kill and 4 Digs, Valentina Boros added 3 Digs, and Angellys Castellano added 1 Ace and 1 Dig. Addie Ison added good defense as she was able to get her hands on multiple balls at the net.
The Freshman fall to 0-1, but will return to action on Wednesday against Akron Firestone looking for their first win of the season.

Boardman White 8th Grade Volleyball
The Boardman White 8th Grade Volleyball team opened its 2026 season with three matches during the week of August 17–22. Although the Spartans are still searching for their first win, the team displayed great effort, resilience, and continued improvement throughout a challenging opening week.
The Spartans opened the season at home on Monday, August 17, with a valiant effort against the Mineral Ridge Rams. Boardman battled hard and pushed the match to three sets before falling 2-1. Audrey Bennett led the way for the Spartans with four aces and four kills. Reese Majors contributed an ace, three kills, and four digs, while Elyse Wallace added two aces and four digs. Anna Tallman chipped in an ace, two kills, and a dig, while Andie Gerald added a kill and four digs in a strong defensive effort.
On Thursday, the Spartans took on the South Range Raiders. Boardman competed and battled throughout the match but came up short in two sets. Gerald contributed a dig, while Wallace added an ace and two digs. Kylie Watts also made an impact with an ace and three digs. Despite the loss, the Spartans continued to gain valuable experience and work together as a team.
The Spartans wrapped up their busy week on Saturday against the Hubbard Eagles. Boardman battled through two highly competitive sets, but after a long and hard-fought first set, Hubbard gained momentum heading into the second set and secured the victory. Bennett once again led the Spartans with an impressive nine aces, three kills, and two digs. Peirsyn Haywood had a strong performance at the net with an ace and four kills, while Elyse Wallace added three aces and two digs. Denayja Carter contributed two aces and a kill, while Kylie Watts added two kills and a dig. Stella Rea recorded a kill, and Gerald contributed two digs.
The Boardman White 8th Grade Volleyball team finishes the week at 0-3, but the Spartans showed encouraging signs of growth and competitiveness throughout their first three matches. The team demonstrated the ability to battle through close sets, compete at the net, and make plays from the service line. As the season continues, the Spartans will look to build on the progress they made during their opening week and continue working toward their first victory. They head to Louisville on Tuesday.

Boardman White 7th Grade Volleyball
The Boardman White 7th Grade Volleyball team opened its season with three matches during the week of August 17–22. While the Spartans are still looking for their first victory, the team showed tremendous improvement throughout the week and continued to compete with great effort, determination, and teamwork.
The Spartans opened their season at home on Monday, August 17, against Mineral Ridge. Boardman fell in two sets, 25-10 and 26-24, but showed tremendous fight in the second set and came within two points of extending the match. Audrey Hoff led the Spartans with three aces, five kills, and eight digs. Makenna Kashmer had a strong performance from the service line with six aces while adding three digs. Jordann Ray contributed an ace, a kill, and a dig, while Victoria Suchora worked hard defensively with two digs. Skout Rice added an ace, and Vernice Robinson rounded out the team effort with a dig.
On Thursday, Boardman returned to action against South Range in its second match of the season. Although the Spartans fell in both sets to the Raiders, the team continued to battle and gain valuable experience. Hoff once again led the way with seven aces, three digs, and a kill. Kashmer added two kills and a dig, while Robinson contributed two aces. Ray added an ace, and Suchora and Riley LaRocca each recorded a kill. Rice and Alina Castellanos helped defensively with a dig apiece.
The Spartans wrapped up the week at home on Saturday against Hubbard and showed immense improvement in their overall gameplay. Boardman battled hard and took the match to three sets before falling 2-1. Hoff had an outstanding all-around performance, recording 14 aces, six kills, and three digs. Kashmer contributed three digs, a kill, and an ace, while Robinson added three aces and a dig. Ray provided three aces for the Spartan offense, and Suchora contributed an ace and a dig. Castellanos rounded out the defensive effort with a dig.
The Boardman White 7th Grade Volleyball team finishes the week at 0-3, but the Spartans continue to make noticeable improvements with each match. Their effort, determination, and continued growth were especially evident during Saturday's competitive three-set match. Boardman will look to carry that momentum into the new week as they travel to Louisville on Tuesday in search of their first victory of the season.

Boardman Maroon 8th Grade Volleyball
The Boardman Maroon 8th Grade Volleyball team opened its 2026 season with three competitive matches during the week of August 17–22, finishing the week with an overall record of 1-2. The Spartans displayed tremendous effort, teamwork, and resilience throughout the week, earning an impressive victory over Mineral Ridge while continuing to battle in every match.
The Spartans opened their season at home on Tuesday, August 18, against the Canfield Cardinals. Despite falling 2-0, Boardman fought hard and displayed great effort throughout the match. Julianah DiDomenico led the Spartans with one ace, four points, three kills, and two digs. Mia Corey added one point, two assists, two kills, and a dig, while Reese Majors contributed an ace, three points, two kills, and a dig. Giuliana Ball helped lead the offense with five assists and a point, while Alexa Duble added an assist and two kills. Josey Fiddler contributed three points and a dig, while Nalyna Italiano added a point and a dig. Mila Dovas and Mya Majors each recorded a kill.
Boardman bounced back in impressive fashion on Thursday with a 2-0 victory over Mineral Ridge. The Spartans proved exactly what they were made of, as both sets featured incredible rallies and a refusal to give up on any ball. DiDomenico led the offense with seven aces, two points, two assists, and three kills. Corey had an outstanding all-around performance with an ace, three points, four kills, three blocks, and two digs. Ball contributed an ace, a point, and four assists, while Fiddler was dominant from the service line with four aces and four points. Reese Majors added an ace, four points, and a dig, while Italiano contributed three points, a kill, and two digs. Duble added three assists and a kill, while Mya Majors recorded two kills and Dovas added a kill to help secure the Spartan victory.
The Spartans wrapped up the week with a challenging road match at South Range on Saturday. Boardman battled fiercely before falling to the Raiders in two tightly contested sets, 25-21 and 25-19. Despite the loss, the Spartans displayed balanced scoring, strong teamwork, and relentless play at the net. Giuliana Ball anchored the offense with six points, five assists, and a kill. Corey filled the stat sheet with four points, an ace, two kills, and three digs. DiDomenico added five points, two assists, and two kills, while Fiddler kept the Raiders off balance with three aces from the service line. Reese Majors chipped in two points, while Italiano added two points and a kill. Dovas contributed an assist and a kill, and Mya Majors continued her strong net play with a kill.
The Boardman Maroon 8th Grade Volleyball team finished the week with a 1-2 record and will look to continue building on its strong effort and teamwork as the season progresses. The Spartans will look to bounce back quickly when they travel to Louisville on Tuesday, August 25.

Boardman Maroon 7th Grade Volleyball
The Boardman Maroon 7th Grade Volleyball team opened its 2026 season with three matches during the week of August 17–22. Although the Spartans are still searching for their first victory, the team showed continued growth, determination, and strong individual performances throughout the week.
The Spartans opened the season on Tuesday, August 18, against the Canfield Cardinals. Boardman competed with great effort and teamwork throughout the match, communicating well and battling for every point. Gia Ball led the way with two aces and three digs, while Samantha Garland added four points, one ace, and one kill. Ava Risner contributed two points and an ace, while Bexley Jamieson added a point and Iylah Cuevas recorded a kill. Boardman fell to Canfield, 2-0.
On Thursday, the Spartans traveled to Mineral Ridge and continued to show improvement despite another tough 2-0 loss. Ball had another strong performance, recording five aces and two assists. Garland contributed two aces, two points, and a kill, while Ohana Dillard added two points, an ace, and two kills. Risner chipped in with an ace, a point, and a kill, while Lena Ross contributed an assist and a kill.
Boardman wrapped up the week on Saturday with a road match against South Range. The Spartans battled hard but fell 2-0 to the Raiders. Ball had an outstanding all-around performance with six points, five aces, four kills, two digs, and an assist. Ross led the attack with five kills and added two assists, while Annie Montgomery contributed two kills. Risner served two aces, Jamieson added an ace and a point, and Cuevas recorded a kill. Dillard, Gianna McKinnon, Alivia Vukovich, and Garland all provided energy and support for the Spartans.
Boardman Maroon heads into the new week with an 0-3 record but continues to build confidence and improve with every match. The Spartans will look to get into the win column as they travel to Louisville on Tuesday before traveling to Austintown Red on Thursday.
Boardman Golf Falls to Austintown Fitch at Reserve Run
The Boardman Spartans took on Austintown Fitch at Reserve Run on Monday, August 24, with Fitch earning the team victory, 151–167.
Boardman was led by Milo Wright, who posted a strong 37 for the Spartans. Chase Zelesnak followed with a 42, while Brayden McCallum carded a 43 and Andrew Marks finished with a 45.
Additional Boardman scores included Sam Hugenberg (46) and Liam Schaper (47).
